NFL News “Chicago Style”

Amukamara Agrees to Deal With Bears – Cornerback Prince Amukamara has reached an agreement on a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, according to sources. Amukamara’s deal with the Bears is $7 million for one year. Amukamara signed a one-year, $5.5 million contract in March 2016 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He got only one year because the Jaguars wanted him to prove that he could stay healthy, which he had struggled with in five seasons with the Giants.

Bears Sign QB Glennon to 3-Year Deal –  The Chicago Bears launched the post-Jay Cutler era on Friday by announcing the addition of quarterback Mike Glennon on a three-year contract. The Bears will pay new Glennon $16M in guaranteed money in 2017, but that drops to $2.5M in 2018 and no guaranteed money in 2019.  The 27-year-old Glennon was a third-round pick of the Bucs in 2013 and had a 5-13 record as a starter in his first two seasons before serving as the backup to Jameis Winston.

Bears Begin to Fill Receiver Void by Agreeing With Markus Wheaton – After losing Alshon Jeffery to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Bears agreed to terms with Pittsburth Steelers receiver Markus Wheaton. Wheaton, 26, played in just three games last year because of a shoulder injury. He was more involved in Pittsburgh’s offense in 2014-15, catching a combined 97 balls for 1,393 yards and seven touchdowns. Wheaton also returned some kickoffs for the Steelers.

Bears signed TE Dion Sims, formerly of the Dolphins, to a three-year, $18 million contract. He got $10 million guaranteed. It’s a ton of money for a blocking tight end who was forced into a pass-catching role for the Dolphins last season. Sims has sure hands, but is not a playmaker. He’s averaged a well-below-average 9.4 yards on his 74 career grabs. He’ll be second in line for targets behind Zach Miller.
