Chicago Blackhawks 0 – Nashville Predators 5

Highlights:  Pekka Rinne made 30 saves in his second straight shutout and picked up two assists, helping the Nashville Predators pound the Chicago Blackhawks 5-0 on Saturday night for a 2-0 lead in their first-round playoff series. Ryan Johansen had a goal and two assists as Nashville added a dominant performance to its taut 1-0 victory in Game 1 on Thursday night. Ryan Ellis, Harry Zolnierczyk, Colton Sissons and Kevin Fiala each scored their first career playoff goal. Chicago coach Joel Quenneville shuffled his lineup, inserting rookie Vinnie Hinostroza and Dennis Rasmussen and benching veteran Jordin Tootoo and John Hayden.

 

Chicago White Sox 0 – Minnesota Twins 6

Highlights:  Ervin Santana pitched a one-hitter for the first complete-game victory by a pitcher in the major leagues this season, and the Minnesota Twins beat the White Sox 6-0 Saturday to stop Chicago’s three-game winning streak. Santana’s (3-0) won his third straight start, striking out eight, walking one and retiring his final 18 batters as he lowered his ERA to 0.41. Chicago had just two runners: Omar Narvaez singled with one out in the third and Avisail Garcia walked leading off the fourth. Jose Quintana (0-3) gave up hits to six of his first seven batters in a 39-pitch first inning, including Max Kepler‘s two-run triple. Quintana allowed five runs, nine hits and five walks in 5 2/3 innings. Joe Maurer and Jorge Polanco had run-scoring singles in the first, and Miguel Sano hit an RBI double as Minnesota took a 5-0 lead. The Twins had five extra-base hits against Quintana. Robbie Grossman added an RBI single in the eighth against Michael Ynoa.

 

Chicago Cubs 7 – Pittsburgh Pirates 8

Highlights:  Andrew McCutchen hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in a five-run seventh inning that led the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Chicago Cubs 8-7 on Saturday. Francisco Cervelli and Starling Marte also homered for Pittsburgh. Chicago led 6-2 before Marte’s solo drive in the sixth inning off starter Jake Arrieta. Josh Harrison homered with one out in the seventh against Brian Duensing and Adam Frazier‘s RBI single cut the Pirates’ deficit to 6-5. Pedro Strop (0-1) walked Marte, and McCutchen homered into the first row of the left-field bleachers for an 8-6 lead. Kris Bryant cut the deficit in the ninth against Tony Watson with his second home run of the game. Watson struck out Addison Russell with a runner on for his fourth save in as many chances. Trevor Williams (1-0) pitched a one-hit seventh for the win.
