Chicago Cubs 3 – St. Louis Cardinals 5
Highlights: Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez had his second straight two-hit game, Tommy Pham kept up his strong start to the season and St. Louis beat the Chicago Cubs 5-3 on Saturday. Martinez scored Pham on a squeeze bunt in the third inning. Chicago left-hander Jon Lester tried to field the ball and flip it home, but the attempt came up short while Martinez took second with nobody covering. Martinez also doubled leading off the fifth inning. Martinez allowed three runs, five hits and four walks over 6 2/3 innings, striking out seven. Top Cubs prospect Ian Happ homered off Martinez in the seventh for his first hit in his major league debut. Pham had two hits, two RBI, a walk and a stolen base. Seung Hwan Oh pitched the ninth, giving up a two-out single before picking up his 10th save in 11 opportunities.
Chicago White Sox 4 – San Diego Padres 5
Highlights: Yolmer Sanchez singled with one out in the bottom of the ninth to score Tyler Saladino and give the White Sox a 5-4 victory over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night. The play at the plate was close and went to replay. It was finally confirmed, Saladino got under the tag of catcher Austin Hedges, and the White Sox could celebrate. Saladino went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Avisail Garcia homered for Chicago. Wil Myers, Manuel Margot and Allen Cordoba all had solo homers for San Diego. David Robertson (2-0) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth for the win.
